is a French word meaning "Certification." An apostille is the name for a specialized certificate issued by the U.S Secretary of State to be used in a foreign Country, refer as a "Country of Destination".
-If the Country of Destination is a member of 1961 Hague Convention. The office of the Secretary of State where the (Document Originated) will apostilled.

- If the Country of Destination (where the document will be used) is a Non-Hague Convention Countries. The Embassy of Legalization must be obtained.
That means that the Secretary of state office will issue a Certification of Authentication , instead of apostille, in the State of Origination, and then forward to Department of State for Legalization, and presented to the Consulate of the destination country.

3.- US Department of State Authentication (Federal Level)
The US Department of State in Washington, DC will attach a federal Authentication
4.- Embassy / Consulate Legalization
Submit the Federal Authentication doc to the Embassy. The Consulate will attach the final stamp or Legalization.
